Dear Hempfield field hockey players,
I'm excited to be in my new role as the head middle school coach. I hope this message finds you healthy, happy, and enjoying a well-deserved summer vacation. For those of you who are new to the program, welcome! Like last year, we will be fielding two junior high field hockey teams (7th-9th graders).
The tryout times (beginning August 22, 4:00-5:30) are mandatory and crucial to securing a spot on the junior high teams. The tryout week and daily practices will consist of conditioning, stick skills, drills, and learning rules and positions on the field.
BEFORE YOU ARE ABLE TRY OUT, you must receive a physical exam by a physician after June 1. Announcements were made in all elementary and middle schools for your daughter to pick up a physical exam form, but to find out more information and to obtain a form click here. For an easy to follow flow chart of steps to take click here.
Players are responsible for bringing a mouth guard, goggles/cages, sneakers for running, cleats (are preferred for playing on grass), shinguards, and a stick to EVERY practice. You will not be able to try out or train throughout the season if you do not bring this equipment. If you need help purchasing this equipment, please contact me at jessica_wise@hempfieldsd.org.
Always be on time, prepared with necessary equipment, and ready to play by the starting times of practices. Most importantly bring a good attitude and a growth mindset! :) During the season practices will be on weekdays from 3:30-5:15. See the calendar tab for more specific information on practices and games.
*If you need to be excused from practice or leave early for an appointment or family obligation please notify me via email or written note ASAP (preferably the day before that practice).
I'm pleased to announce Sarah Hunt (GaNung), also a teacher for the district, will be the assistant junior high coach this year. We are both looking forward to a great season!
Best wishes,
Coach Wise .X.
